Because I'm pretty fuckin jaded. None of their reps even understand what the Database Server Manager does or what Multi-User mode really means, or have any concept of how an "enterprise" IT environment works despite the name of the product. Bend over and get ready to be fucked because it's expensive as hell.Īnd don't expect those Enterprise licenses to entitle you to any kind of special support. Oh yeah, and >5 users? You need Enterprise licenses to Quickbooks. Quickbooks also believe this is perfectly fine.

Except no amount of training the users will solve this problem because the option to open the company file as Multi-User is a tiny ass checkbox in the Open dialog screen which most users never even see because when they open Quickbooks they usually just select the company file from the "Recents" menu. Then you've gotta track them down and tell them not to do that. If you don't do this, then the first person to open the company file gets to choose to open it in Single User, or Multi-User, and if they pick Single User it will lock everyone else in the company out. This forces everyone else to open it in Multi-User mode. Oh yeah - and make sure you keep a user logged in on the server and have Quickbooks running on the server, with the QB company file open all the time. It's a lot easier if you just create your own Firewall rules whitelisting the whole application. Also the Quickbooks Database Server Manager creates firewall rules automatically, but those rules have hard coded whatever static port was in use at the time, and that means every time the service starts, the port will change, and QB will be broken unti until you rerun the "repair" tool in Database Server Manager, where it then creates a new firewall rule. Quickbooks believes this is perfectly fine.Īlso make sure your firewall rules are whitelisting the program, rather than the ports, because as of Quickbooks 2019 they decide to use randomized dynamic ports for some god awful reason.

Because the stupid ass Quickbooks Database Server Manager software will overwrite your filesystem permissions with Everyone - Full Control for the WHOLE DRIVE as soon as you turn it on and randomly every few weeks or whenever you run your updates, essentially opening your whole Fileserver up to the whole world regardless of what permissions you set.

If you're hosting multi-user access in Quickbooks, you need Windows Server edition.Īlso if the server is gonna also be a fileserver, do yourself a favor and make a separate partition for the Quickbooks company files (not just a separate folder, make a whole partition on the hard drive and assign a different drive letter for it). You're gonna run into the max connection limit issues on regular Windows if you have >10 users connecting to Quickbooks.
